On Saturday, September 12, Urban Explorers returns to where it began.
We are retracing the route of the first edition and returning to the IL Caragiale – Jean Louis Calderon – Armenească – Spătarului area, two years after the first tour. Not to simply repeat the same walk, but to look at the city again and see what has changed in the meantime.
What has stayed the same? What has transformed? What do we now observe differently? And what can these seemingly small changes tell us about how Bucharest is evolving?
The tour will take place in collaboration with Ovidiu Neacșu and Bucureștiul Povestit, with Ovidiu guiding the route. Urban Explorers / Youth Vision for Society will coordinate the experience and bring the urban exploration perspective that underpins the project.
It's not just a guided tour
Urban Explorers started from a simple idea: the city is not discovered only through its major landmarks nor only from the central boulevards.
Sometimes the most interesting things are around the corner.
They are on more secluded streets, in alleys, in courtyards, in architectural details, in the traces left by other stages of the city, and in buildings that we may pass by every day without really looking at them.
That's why Urban Explorers tours are designed more as urban exploration exercises than as simple sightseeing tours. We're interested not only in finding out stories, but also in learning to observe.

Let's get off the obvious paths.
Let's see what lies beyond the facade.
Why are we coming back after two years?
Returning to the route of the first edition also has an additional stake: the city is changing, even when the changes are not spectacular.
A building is renovated. Another is deteriorating. A space changes its function. A courtyard disappears from the everyday landscape. A new layer appears on top of an old one.
Viewed over a period of several years, the same route may tell a different story.
That's why the September 12 tour is also a small comparison exercise: what does the area we explored at the first Urban Explorers edition look like today and what can we understand from the transformations we observe?
